Aside from that, our covid passports were not up to date due to a issue but we had negative tests, and they couldn’t understand this. None of the staff understood much English, but unaware we could speak some spanish, decided to be rude about us. We stayed at the Maya for two nights and there isn’t much I can say about it that is good. A great hotel and will definitely return to Alicante and stay here again. Only couple of small niggles - couldn't seem to get aircon to work but kept the door and windows open, and the mattresses were a little firm for us. Didn't have any meals here so can't comment on restaurant. Reception staff were always friendly and efficient, particularly Rubin. Bought two mugs for this from Alcampo shopping centre across 4 roads from hotel. Fridge in room and hired a kettle (€10 returnable deposit) so could make tea in the mornings. Room on 7th floor had great sea views and was immaculately cleaned each day. Worth getting there early in the day (opens at 1000) and having a coffee on the cafe terrace. Castle (free entrance) accessible from just behind the MARC tram station, up a zig zag path in the shade in the mornings. Hotel is well located - close to bus stop for line C6 to and from airport, within walking distance of other buses and tram stops taking you up and down the coast and into the city (but you can walk into the old town and to beach and marina). Stayed for a week in Jan/Feb with very warm weather (28° on last day). The location of the hotel was lovely, though not central, we loved the walk down after breakfast and evening meal but can be tiring walking back in the heat, taxis are cheap.Īlicante is such a beautiful city with lots to see and do, this is our second visit but would definitely return.
